Trying something new here. As regular readers of
500ish Words will know, I’ve been
thinking a lot about newsletters recently. And while I haven’t quite wrapped my head around what I want to do here just yet, I figured the best way to figure that out would be to start experimenting.
So, I set up this space through
Revue (which seems like a great service), to test some things out. If you’d like to follow along, feel free to subscribe. I’m not 100% sure what my cadence will be here, but I know that the key to newsletters in general is regularity. So I’m going to attempt to set a regular schedule for these to go out.
How will this be different from 500ish itself? Good question! As some of you may know, I read quite a bit each day. I used to share some of what I read on my site
ParisLemon in the form of a link blog. But given the current state of Tumblr, I’ve largely moved away from that in recent months (and, to be honest, Tumblr was always far better as a visual platform anyway).
More recently, I’ve been sharing some of the best of what I read on Twitter. I like this and still plan to do it, but for some things, I find the 140 character limit lacking.
So. My initial plan here will be to share a handful – let’s say 5ish ;) – of links I find interesting with some added commentary. Sort of like a link blog, but in your inbox. Revolutionary, I know.
Anything longer I have to write – though not too long! – will still go up on 500ish itself, of course.
We’ll see how this goes. I don’t mean to be so noncommittal, but I also want to set expectations appropriately. I believe there’s something interesting to be done with newsletters, but I’m also wary of clogging up peoples’ inboxes unless it’s with something meaningful. So stay tuned.
